Getting Past Revan

Darth Revan in Knights of the Old Republic is a two-phase fight that breaks most people's builds if they walk into it unprepared. The first phase is heavy on Force attacks and lightsaber dueling. The second phase changes his aggression pattern and healing routine entirely. I ran into this exact problem last year when my player was sitting at around 200 ability score with a standard Jedi character, and I kept getting wrecked in phase one before I could even get to phase two. The fix was simpler than you'd think but involves a few specifics most walkthroughs skip. The core strategy comes down to three things: crowd control, ranged Force attacks, and managing his healing cycles. Revan has powerful Force abilities including Force Drain, Force Lightning, and Mind Trick, so pulling him away from the party matters more than raw damage output. I used to make the mistake of sending all four party members in at once, which just lets him focus-fire one person and reset with healing. Instead, split them up. Keep your tank near a pillar or cover object and keep your ranged Force attackers out of his melee range. His Force Drain ability is the most dangerous part of the first phase. It steals your ability scores and gives them to himself. This mechanic makes high-ability characters actually weaken themselves by standing near him during that animation. The workaround is to interrupt or kite during the drain window. If you have a party member with a stasis field or hold ability, use it right when he starts channeling. One of my characters in a later run had Force Stasis ready and I just spammed it on cooldown during his casts. It turned what was a brutal phase into something manageable in under three minutes.

Phase two introduces a harder healing mechanic. Revan starts using more aggressive combo attacks and his Force Lightning becomes more frequent. At this point your party should already be low on Force points if you've been spamming stasis. Save your heavy-hitting Force powers for when his health drops below 40 percent. That is when his defense stats actually drop and he becomes more vulnerable. Before that threshold, his armor class is frustratingly high and most of your attacks bounce off. Equipment matters more than level here. I found that giving your primary damage dealer a weapon with Force attack bonuses and then equipping armor with Force resistance reduced the damage from his lightning by about sixty percent. Without that resistance gear, you are burning through healing items faster than you can regen them. A specific edge case I hit was on a try where my party's Force resistance was just barely enough to survive the lightning but not enough to survive the combination of lightning plus his lightsaber swing on a critical hit. One person died and the run stalled. The workaround was to stack a minor Force resistance item, even one you normally would skip, because the math actually checks out at that boss encounter. There are ways to make this fight easier through pre-battle preparation too. Stock up on Force point restoration items, not just health items. Revan drains your Force pool fast with his abilities, and a character with no Force points cannot use stasis, push, or heal on demand. I usually carry at least six Force restoration potions and two greater restorations. The fight itself usually lasts between four and eight minutes depending on your build, and running out of Force early is what turns a five-minute phase one into a twenty-minute slog.

Another counter-intuitive point that most guides miss: do not max out your lightsaber damage right before this fight. Revan has high lightsaber defense in phase one, meaning your melee DPS is less effective than you think. Divert some of that investment into Force attack power instead. A character doing moderate physical damage but high Force damage will outperform a max-melee character every time in this encounter. The math just does not favor pure sword builds here. The fight completely falls apart if you rely on mind trick or charm abilities, by the way. Revan has immunity to those, so wasting Force points on charm attempts early in the fight will cost you resources you need later. I learned that the hard way on my third attempt when I wasted about forty percent of my starting Force reserve on useless charm rolls. After that I just stuck to stasis, push, and direct damage spells. Much cleaner execution. If your party is below level forty, this fight is significantly harder and the strategies above still apply but the margin for error shrinks. Below level thirty-five I would recommend a different approach entirely: use the battle map's environmental hazards and keep all characters at maximum distance while chipping away with ranged Force attacks. It is slower but safer for low-level runs.
