Getting Into Your University Of New Haven UIs Account
UniversityOfNewHaven.edu uses a single sign-on system called UIs for most of its digital services. It covers things like the student portal, employee systems, and course management tools. The login page sits at uuis.unh.edu or accessible through the main university website. When you land there, you enter your university ID and password, then get routed to whatever service you were trying to reach. The quick access link people usually want is the direct signin page: https://uuis.unh.edu/saml/login. That hits the SAML authentication endpoint directly instead of bouncing through the homepage. If you're on campus WiFi or using the VPN, it works fine from any browser. Outside those networks, it's the same page but sometimes slower because traffic routes through the identity provider. I spent about forty minutes last spring trying to log in before realizing my account had been flagged after three failed attempts from different locations. The system locked me out for two hours automatically. I had to call the IT help desk at extension 203-906-7000 just to get it manually unlocked. They asked for my student ID and a security question I'd set up during onboarding. If you get locked out, don't keep hammering the login button. It just resets the timer. Call them instead.
For password reset, go to the same login page and click "Forgot Password" at the bottom. You'll enter your university ID, then a verification code gets sent to whatever email address is on file. From experience, that email isn't always the one you think. Some accounts still have high school addresses or old personal emails attached. Check your student records first if you don't get the code within sixty seconds. Once you reset, the new password has to be at least eight characters, include one uppercase letter, one number, and one special character. The system won't accept common replacements like @ for A. You'll also get kicked out of every active session across all university systems when you change it. That means reopening Canvas, the financial aid portal, and anything else you had open. Factor that in if you're mid-task. A thing most people miss: UIs supports third-party authentication through Google and Microsoft accounts for some services, but not all. The HR and payroll modules require the standard university credentials. If a login page gives you those extra buttons and yours still doesn't work, try the regular username/password flow instead of switching browsers or clearing cookies.
Mobile users should note that the UIs portal isn't optimized for small screens. The navigation drops menus oddly on phones under seven inches. Use the desktop view or the myUH mobile app if you need to access anything on the go. The standalone app handles authentication better than a mobile browser ever will. If you're offboarding or graduating, your UIs account gets disabled roughly thirty days after your final term ends. Any saved links or bookmarks to sub-services will stop working at that point. Download whatever documents you need before then. The IT page lists exact deactivation timelines, but they stick to them pretty strictly.
